DEFINITION - The NASDAQ is the largest electronic securities exchange in the United States. The exchange was founded in 1971 and has more than 3000 member companies. Its activities are regulated and monitored by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). NASDAQ stands for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations.
